This blog was originally dedicated to update my friends and family on the details of my recovery from a traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI). I later began writing myself and now use this blog to document my journey through life with a spinal cord injury.

Please Do NOT Come To The Hospital:

Carson should be moving any moment now from the ICU to another room on the 6th floor of the hospital where he will be for a couple days before moving to rehab. Here is the deal with visiting: Carson loves to see people. However, the doctor and family has strongly advised us that we continue to not allow visitors. Camille has received a TON of requests from people asking to come visit. This is very overwhelming for the parents and very frustrating. As you can imagine, they do not want to turn anyone away. Carson likewise does not want to turn anyone away. The doctor said that parents and patients often feel guilty that people have traveled so far, so they try to accommodate them and visit with them, even when they shouldn't. This is an added stress on his parents that we can eliminate.

While we know everyone has good intentions, it is really taxing on him to have to stay awake and talk. When he is with immediate family he can fall asleep whenever he needs and doesn't feel obligated to stay awake. For example, Steve told me that today he has hardly been able to get a word out of him between Carson dozing off.

I feel like a little part of me dies every time I have to tell everyone that they cannot come visit. I know it is incredibly frustrating and disheartening to not be able to give your support. However, we often forget that he has just been through 6 hours of surgery. He needs rest. Please DO NOT message the parents or Ann asking them to come visit! The family will manage all of the visit requests through this email address: tuellercarson@gmail.com. That way they can respond on their own time and not have their phone messages overwhelmed. Please write Carson Letters on the Googledoc. They can read him letters in the brief periods while he is awake. Carson was deeply moved by the letters that we read him last night. He has read a lot of letters today, they mean a lot to him. We are still a good number of days before Carson can handle visitors. Thank you for your patience and prayers!
