Carson woke up in the presence of his parents early in the morning on December 31st, he was heavily sedated and smiling with that signature Carson-smile. He woke up a few times and was visited by his siblings later in the day. His home and singles ward bishops came and visited him. He was very fatigued and non-responsive. Throughout the day he drifted in and out of sleep. The family asked that his friends still wait to come visit the hospital until he is more stable. They want to wait until he is stable enough that he won't be overwhelmed and so they can understand his sleep schedule a little more.
This blog was originally dedicated to update my friends and family on the details of my recovery from a traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI). I later began writing myself and now use this blog to document my journey through life with a spinal cord injury.

The First Surgery
The first surgery for Carson was mainly to stabilize him and prevent any further nerve damage. As I stated earlier, there isn't too much you can do while the spinal cord is swollen. The surgery consisted of replacing his C7 vertebra with a cadaver bone. The surgery lasted a couple of hours, afterward he was moved to the ICU. He has two more surgeries scheduled later in the week.
