This blog was originally dedicated to update my friends and family on the details of my recovery from a traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI). I later began writing myself and now use this blog to document my journey through life with a spinal cord injury.

Posts By The Humphreys

Very few people were able to visit with Carson last night. I just talked to one of his case managers who said that they are concerned with the amount of traffic Carson has been getting. Steve mentioned that they don't want anyone to feel like they are unwanted. Carson has given indication that he is a little overwhelmed and needs rest. I am saying it because I know he won't.
The Humphreys mentioned a few things in their Facebook post that I forgot to mention in my posts. They are such kind and gracious people, I can understand why Carson always talks about them with such reverence.

"President and I were fortunate to have some time with Carson and friends this evening....he was tired but managed to make us laugh! Amount other things he told us he failed his swallow test, rolling his eyes to let us know it was a set back that he considered temporary. Then he told us, I am so hungry, and I want to emphasize the way he said it, "I am sooooo hungry" was typical Carson Tueller style theatrics!!

When asked what he wants to eat first, (when he gets the doctors o.k), he immediately said "cheesecake" followed immediately by "ice cream, that sounds good"!! Amidst his smiles and use of wit there are tears....tears of gratitude! At first we wondered why he needed help from friends to dab the corners of his eyes almost constantly, but he helped us understand. He remarked in a soft, thoughtful voice,"why me, why am I so blessed"????? Those were tears of gratitude, gratitude for all the care and support he feels, and sees, and senses all around him, enveloping him in the soft arms of love.

Can I just say we are learning from him, he is tutoring us in discipleship and Christ like love.

So although he is exhausted from the surgery, he is in high spirits, buoyed by the tremendous outpourings of love, support, prayers and tender mercies showered down upon him.

There will be untold amounts of needs, specific things that others can pitch in to do in order to help and to serve. For now, we need to be in a holding pattern, we must be patient and allow the needs of the future to present themselves.

We must also remember, when there are more opportunities to visit Carson, we need to be certain that we are not sick in any way, or have been around those who have been. His immune system cannot afford to be compromised right now!

He loves each of you and enjoys your thoughts, stories and comments tremendously! You are helping lift him, nourish his soul and give him added reasons to fight back!

CARSON CAN!!!!"
