This blog was originally dedicated to update my friends and family on the details of my recovery from a traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI). I later began writing myself and now use this blog to document my journey through life with a spinal cord injury.

The Accident

On the evening of December 30th 2013, Carson and his family were at a trampoline park in Kaysville, Utah. Carson was doing flips from the trampoline to the foam pit. One fateful jump landed Carson on his neck in the pit, shattering his C7 vertebra. Carson was immediately paralyzed from the chest down. Stephen, Carson's father, recounted, "He was just doing flips like he had a hundred times. He landed face up, from where I was standing I could only see his legs above the foam. They weren't moving, but I supposed that he was resting. After about 20 seconds of him not moving, he started flailing one of his arms. I jumped in the pit and Carson immediately said, 'Dad, I'm paralyzed, please give me a priesthood blessing.' I didn't have any oil, but I gave him a blessing. I just tried to keep him breathing. He kept telling me 'everything is going to be okay, Dad.'"

In order to retrieve Carson from the pit, they removed hundreds of foam squares. Carson was life-flighted to the University of Utah hospital in Salt Lake City, where he immediately received an MRI and was soon given emergency surgery. His parents said he was very positive and smiling while he was preparing to go into surgery.
